In 1994, when I graduated from Wigan & Leigh College, I was determined to offer my clients a powerful and potent experience of deepest respect, accurate empathy and trust.  My hope is that my clients experience me as warm and genuine.

I had experienced first-hand, the immensely life-changing power of the Person-Centred Approach.  I had moved out of fear and passivity into quietly confident assertiveness, which affected my life utterly positively.  I had felt valued and prized by my own counsellor who had been there, simply to help me make the changes I chose to make.  This has become MY philosophy.  I totally trust those with whom I work, to know where they are hurting and how to find healing.  My role is to be a faithful companion, to help my clients empower themselves and to facilitate my clients to make changes and to heal themselves.

Some 30 years ago I set up and until a few years ago managed the Counselling Service at a St. Helens surgery, where a variety of doctors, and health care professionals referred patients to me for one-to-one sessions.  Sadly, due to drastic NHS cuts, the service was  "decomissioned" - much to the dismay of the medics and despair of the patients. However, this has offered a great opportunity to devote all my time to my Private Practise, giving greater flexibility of daytime and evening appointments during weekdays in Newton-le-Willows.  I continue to receive referrals of NHS patients from GP's I once worked alongside - now to my Private Practise, so still maintain good working relationships with local doctors.  I have been working full-time since 1994 full-time within the field of counselling...offering therapy and later on, supervision and for many years was involved in all levels of counsellor training.

From 2013 until early in 2017, I set-up and managed a further two In-House Counselling Services at two more Medical Centres locally, until again, unfortunately, NHS cuts meant ending the services to these.

Private Practice is a now the whole of my work which I enormously enjoy.
Here, in a dedicated first floor counselling room, I am able to create a warm and welcoming environment and appropriate therapeutic ambiance, which I am told by my clients is extremely comfortable, quiet, comforting and soothing.  I worked for many years as an individual and group therapist at two Priory Hospitals in the North West until December 2013.

My teaching work, over the past 24 years included Introduction, Certificate and Advanced Diploma, MA and MSc courses (skills, supervision, personal development and Person-Centred theory).  For several years I taught a module I developed, on a Masters Degree course at a Liverpool University. This is similar in essence to one I wrote for and delivered to staff of one of the Priory Hospitals.

My training as an Expressive Therapist took place mostly in California with Natalie Rogers (daughter of Carl Rogers), and was completed with my graduation in 1996.  I found this experience life-changing.  My fear, when a student, was tangible and paralysing. I was the one hiding outside the room to complete some of the exercises alone.  My growth came from facing my fears and inhibitions, challenging myself to take risks gradually and at my own pace.  I may challenge my clients but ALWAYS gently and ALWAYS absolutely respecting his or her choices.

I was delighted to be asked by Natalie, to contribute to her latest book.  I feel excited to say that this book is now published and is called The Creative Connection for Groups.

One of the most recent developments to my Practice involved working with BACP/NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT) to supervise supervisors and experienced counsellors who are trainees in PCE-CfD (Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression) who work within the NHS.
